site plan

A map of the grounds or immediate area around an object, usually showing its footprint and nearby site features.

A site plan is a map of the grounds or immediate area where a structure or other object is located. It may be highly detailed or a general outline, and it generally includes an outline showing the footprint of the object referred to. Most site plans include landscape features such as trees and ponds, as well as pathways, roadways, and often property boundaries. Site plans are most often based on a structure's lot, but may also be bounded by any other nearby parameters or simply end at a certain radius from the structure's perimeter.

The mapped area can follow the property lot, another nearby boundary, or a chosen distance from the object. A legal parcel boundary is therefore not required to define every site plan's extent.

The grounds and their arrangement distinguish the site plan from a floor plan focused on the horizontal layout inside the structure. The object's footprint can appear in a site plan without turning it into a floor plan.
