market

A geographical area or segment of entities within an area which is commonly treated as a unit for economic analysis.

A market is any particular geographic area which is normally selected for economic statistics or analysis. Any geographic entity can be defined as a market area, as well as any other area which is conveniently treated as such. A market area can be defined to include all structures or potential structures within its boundaries, or it can be restricted to structures of any particular type or quality.

The area is treated as a unit for economic comparison. Its boundary can follow an established geographic entity or another area used consistently for that purpose.

The included properties can cover the full area or a selected type or quality within it. A submarket is a geographic or economic subset of an already defined market.
