A subset of any defined market area which mirrors the criteria for a separate market.

A submarket is any geographic or economic subset of a defined market area which contains properties commonly grouped for economic statistics and analysis.

The subset can be spatial or economic, such as a grouping of properties within the larger market. Its identity depends on the market of which it forms a part.

A market supplies the larger unit of economic analysis. The submarket isolates a commonly analyzed portion without necessarily creating an official territorial division.
