sloped roof

A roof dominated by a straight slope in one direction, at least 10 degrees from horizontal.

A sloped roof is a building roofline dominated by a straight slope in a single direction, at least 10 degrees off the horizontal axis. Roofs which slope on two sides are gabled roofs, and roofs which slope on 4 sides are pyramidal or hipped roofs.

The dominant slope runs in one direction. A gabled roof falls on two sides of a ridge, while a hipped roof has slopes on at least four sides.

The roof's geometry is separate from its covering material. A change of shingles, sheets, or other covering does not change the direction or angle of its dominant slope.
