Norwegian county number
The official two-digit code identifying a Norwegian county in the register kept by Statistics Norway.
The county number (fylkesnummer) is the numeric half of the county’s ISO 3166-2 code: 03 is Oslo (NO-03), 46 is Vestland (NO-46).
It also opens the municipality number of every municipality in that county, which is why a municipality’s county follows from its own code without a lookup.
The 2020 local government reform merged the 19 counties into 11. The Storting reversed that in part on 1 January 2024, and 15 counties are in force today, so the count depends on the year the source was written.
