hexagon

A building plan with six roughly equal principal sides meeting at similar convex angles.

Pictured: Central Hi-Rise

A hexagonal building plan has a perimeter with six roughly equal sides meeting each other at similar convex angles. A hexagon is a clearly defined, highly symmetrical and tessellating shape, although building plans may deviate from the exact form as long as they are recognizably hexagonal.

The principal sides and corner angles approximate a regular six-sided outline. Minor departures from exact geometry can remain when the plan is recognizably hexagonal.

A pentagon has five main sides and a heptagon has seven. The hexagon definition retains its roughly equal sides and similar angles rather than covering every arbitrary six-segment outline.
