terraced roof

A building top whose roof is distributed over successive large steps or terraces on one or more sides.

A terraced roof is a building top with a roof distributed over various successive large steps or terraces. These terraces can be on one or multiple sides of the building. These setbacks may occur near the top of the building or all the way up, along the building's sides.

The setbacks can occur only near the top or continue along much of the building's height. They need not extend around every side.

A ziggurat has the more specific approximately symmetrical, concentric stepped-pyramid arrangement. Terraces confined to one side can qualify here without forming that arrangement.
