cultivated land

A parcel of land prepared or used for controlled growth of selected species for consumption.

A cultivated parcel of land is a distinct section of the Earth's surface which is thoroughly shaped, cleared, prepared, or used for the planned growth of some particular crop or plant species intended for consumption, or for the growth of multiple species intended for harvest or for the feeding of animals. It does not include gardens, lawns, or other areas of controlled plant growth which are not directly intended for consumption. It also does not include natural areas exploited for consumption.

Human preparation or management supports the intended harvest or animal feeding. The site differs from a natural area where products are simply collected without that cultivation.

An ornamental landscaped area has a different purpose when its plantings are not intended for consumption. The harvested or grazed use is part of the cultivated land's identity.
