transit operator

A transit operator is a private enterprise, government agency, or other organization that operates one or more transportation routes. It may be connected to a node (like a train station), to a designated transportation corridor, or to a linear object that coincides with the transit route.

The organization operates the transportation service along a route or network. The station or corridor connection reflects where that service runs or serves passengers.

Ownership of a station building does not alone establish responsibility for the transportation service. The owner and transit operator can be separate organizations.
