attached elevator core

A small, distinct wing containing elevator shafts which projects from the side of a building.

An attached elevator core is a distinct element projecting out from the perimeter of a building, which is designed to hold elevator shafts, an access corridor, and possibly stairs, but no usable tenant space.

The projection contains the elevator shafts and their access circulation. Stairs can accompany them, but occupied tenant rooms are excluded from the projecting core described here.

Elevator shafts entirely within the main building perimeter do not create an attached exterior core. A skylobby identifies an upper-floor transfer lobby, whereas this property identifies the projecting circulation element.
