synagogue

A building formed as a Jewish house of worship, distinct from the separate temple structural type.

A synagogue is a house of worship in the Jewish faith. Although sometimes called temples, these buildings are not classified with temples as a structural type.

Its worship purpose belongs to the Jewish faith. The word temple can be part of a synagogue's name without changing that religious building identity.

The structural type concerns the house of worship itself. A Jewish affiliation can instead describe the religious connection of a place serving another primary function.
