An oil extraction site is any kind of well, pump, or other extraction mechanism which brings petroleum from underground or under the sea floor for usage as a fuel, manufacturing product, or commodity.
The installation brings petroleum out of its natural deposit. Both land-based and seabed deposits are possible, and petroleum can be recovered for fuel or other uses.
Oil distribution carries petroleum between extraction and sale. A site that only transfers oil produced elsewhere is separate from the installation extracting it.
