Storage sites are places where any sort of goods are kept when not in use. They do not include shipment hubs, where goods pass rapidly from one leg of their route to another.

The goods remain at the site for a holding purpose. Their storage can be brief or extended; duration alone does not turn storage into an operation that merely transfers goods rapidly onward.

The contents and their role distinguish specific storage uses. A warehouse holds marketable goods within distribution, while self-storage keeps personal property outside that distribution cycle.
