safety feature
Permanent characteristics or installed amenities protecting an object, its occupants, users, or immediate surroundings.
Safety features are permanent characteristics or installed amenities belonging to an object which provide for the safety and/or security of the object itself, its inhabitants, its users, and the immediate environment around it.
Protection can concern the structure itself or the people and environment around it. Both a permanent physical characteristic and installed protective equipment can provide this function.
A policy states rules or requested behavior. The safety feature is the protective characteristic or installation, distinct from a rule about how people should use the place.
