thermometer on facade

A digital or analog reading on a structure's exterior which displays the current temperature to the public.

A facade-mounted thermometer is any sign or actual thermometer affixed to the structure's exterior which displays the current temperature to persons in the vicinity of a structure. The most common form of this is a numeric digital display on an automatically controlled electric sign. These are especially common on banks and public buildings. They sometimes include further information about the weather, such as color-coded lights indicating predicted changes in temperature.

The exterior display communicates the current temperature to nearby viewers. It can be an actual thermometer or an electronic sign reporting a temperature reading.

An electronic information display expressly excludes temperature readings. Additional weather information can accompany the thermometer display without removing its temperature-reporting function.
