guideway transport system

An installed network of guideways used for internal delivery and distribution.

A guideway transport system is any form of internal delivery and distribution system where objects are placed on rails, trays, rollers, pneumatic tubes, or other guided pathways and shipped automatically to another location without human accompaniment.

Objects follow an installed guided route to another location without a person accompanying them. Rails, trays, rollers, and pneumatic tubes are possible arrangements, rather than a requirement for one particular kind of guideway.

An automated storage retrieval system places and retrieves goods in storage. The guideway system identifies internal delivery and distribution along the route, rather than necessarily providing shelving or storage management as well.
