An automated storage retrieval system is an automatically or remotely operated system in which robotic machines shelve, arrange, and retrieve goods in a high-density storage environment. This is a typical component of a high-bay warehouse, but it is also used sometimes in other storage facilities as well as in libraries and archives.
Robotic machinery performs the shelving, arrangement, and retrieval of stored goods. Automatic or remote operation is included, rather than requiring a worker to accompany every movement through the storage area.
A guideway transport system moves objects along guided routes for delivery and distribution. The storage retrieval system also performs the placement and retrieval functions within the high-density storage arrangement.
