A company which double-checks the work of other engineers on a construction project.
A check engineer is an engineering firm hired to double-check the work of the acting engineers.
The firm reviews engineering work already performed by the engineers acting on the project. The checking assignment is the defining activity, rather than responsibility for originating the design being checked.
Construction auditing checks contractors' building work, while check engineering reviews the engineers' work. A certification auditor instead assesses the built object's eligibility for an official certification.
