tenancy design
The intended arrangement of a building's space for one or more tenants, including private and shared occupancy provisions.
The tenancy design of a building is the intended arrangement of its space according to general types of occupancy - mainly how many tenants it can accommodate. Determining factors include provisions for privacy, separation, and shared use when multiple tenants are to be admitted.
This field applies mainly to commercial properties, especially office buildings and retail spaces. It can theoretically be applied also to hotels and various institutional usages as well.
A single-tenant design lacks provision for divided occupancy, while a multi-tenant design accommodates it. A temporarily vacant or singly occupied building can still have a design intended for several tenants.
