main train station

A primary intercity station in a large city or rail hub, usually with at least ten platforms, subject to an official-main-station exception.

A main train station is the primary intercity rail station in a large city or at a network hub. In a few cases a very large city may have multiple main train stations. It should generally have at least 10 platforms to qualify, although it can be smaller if it is officially designated as a main train station and the city has smaller stations.

The platform guideline is at least ten. A smaller station qualifies under the stated exception when it is officially designated as the main station and the city also has smaller stations.

A very large city can have more than one main station. The designation identifies a primary intercity role; it does not require every railway service in the city to use one building.
