number of train platforms

The number of simultaneously usable boarding areas at a train, subway, or other rail station.

The number of train platforms is the total number of linear areas in an object where rail vehicles can be boarded or alighted. A platform between two sets of rails, which can be used for boarding on both sides, counts as two train platforms. This field applies to train stations, metro stations, tram stations, monorail stations, roller coasters, and other objects where there is access to rail transportation.

The counted unit is a boarding or alighting face along the rails. An island platform usable on two sides contributes two, even though it is one physical platform structure.

The same rule applies to the listed rail systems, including roller coasters. The count measures passenger interfaces with rail vehicles, rather than station buildings or train movements.
