The number of passenger interfaces with aircraft in an airport terminal or concourse.
The number of airport gates within an airport, or in a terminal or concourse at an airport, is the total number of entry-exit points where passengers can leave or enter the terminal when transferring to or from an aircraft. Gates may or may not connect to aircraft with a jetway; they may also lead directly outside to where passengers transfer to the aircraft by foot or bus.
A gate is a passenger transfer point between the terminal or concourse and the route to an aircraft. A boarding bridge is one possible connection.
Gates leading to an apron walkway or a transfer bus also qualify. The presence of a jetway is not the basis of the count.
