A bobsled chute is a kind of alpine coaster without fixed tracks, where people can ride bobsleds or similar forms of sledding equipment downhill at high speeds without any snow or ice. The surface must be conducive to sliding, and the trough must be constructed securely to ensure that sleds do not lose the track (especially if the trough is elevated).
The trough bounds the sleds' movement along the downhill course. Its sliding surface serves the ride without a snow or ice covering.
A summer sledway can also use rails for specially built sleds. This chute specifically retains free movement within the trough rather than that fixed-track form.
