A fixed window filling its wall opening or sharing it with a few other panes, excluding long rows and many small divisions.

A picture window is an unmovable window which fills its opening in the building wall, or shares the opening with a small number of other panes (which may or may not move).

If more than 3 fixed window panes are arrayed side by side, they should be classified as continuous glazing. If a fixed window is divided into many medium or small panes, it is a multi-lit or (if deeply tinted) stained glass window.

An adjacent movable pane does not make the fixed pane openable. The limits for more than three fixed panes in a row and for many smaller divisions distinguish picture windows from the related arrangements.
