connected buildings

A complex of separately founded buildings permanently linked above open ground by a bridge, walkway, or passage.

Connected buildings are joined over open ground by a skybridge, a walkway or an enclosed passage, while each building stands on its own foundation. The link is what makes them one complex, so it should be a permanent part of the design rather than a temporary structure.

The buildings may differ in height, age and design. A link added long after completion still counts, as with hotel or hospital wings joined later.

Where the buildings share a base at ground level instead, use the podium complex. Where nothing joins them, use a multi-building complex.
