number of steps in all stairways

The cumulative number of steps in a structure above & below ground, counting parallel stairways separately.

The total number of steps in all stairways is the cumulative count of individual steps within a built object, both above & below ground level. The number is increased with each stairway, even when the stairway serves the same floors as other stairways. (In this respect, this field is unlike the fields for steps above ground and steps underground, which only count steps in a single progression from bottom to top.)

Each stairway contributes its own steps to the total. Separate parallel routes between the same floors therefore increase the cumulative figure.

The quantity is a count of physical steps across the object, including its underground portions. It does not express the number a person would climb on a single route from the lowest level to the highest.
