Measurements of the perpendicular distance between two sides of the same component.
Thickness measurements express the distance in meters or comparable units between two opposite sides of one object or component. This distance should generally be measured at an angle perpendicular to a line tangential to each surface, or, where the direction of the two sides conflicts, perpendicular to the tangent of what is normally considered the outer surface.
Thicknesses are measured in the same units as length, height, depth, and elevation.
The measurement crosses the component between its opposite faces. A distance along a face describes length or width, and layers contribute only as specified by the particular component-thickness definition.
