neo-byzantine

A 19th and 20th century revival of Byzantine architecture, with domes, centralized plans, and Near-Eastern ornament.

Neo-Byzantine or Byzantine Revival architecture is a romantic or historicist revival of the Byzantine style, which originated in what is now Istanbul in the middle of the first millennium A.D.

In addition to the typical features of ancient Byzantine architecture, such as centralized and secondary domes, square floorplans, side vaulting, and mosaic ornament, the Neo-Byzantine style often adds towers, Moorish striping, and various other fantastic features.
