neo-baroque

A revival of baroque architectural forms and motifs in the 19th and early 20th centuries.

Neo-baroque architecture is a revival or continued use of baroque forms, often in a simplified or self-conscious manner, in buildings constructed after 1800. It is somewhat common in small European churches, where simple baroque forms such as arched windows and onion domes are used.

Many beaux-arts structures are often identified as neo-baroque or baroque revival. As a style separate from beaux-arts, this style should be understood as a more direct inheritance from baroque architecture, without the sophisticated inventions and nesting of forms used in beaux-arts.

Approximate Dates: 1800 to 1920
