queen anne

A mainly residential style featuring complex shapes with turrets, strong ornamentation, and varied coloring.

The Queen Anne style is a largely American variant of neo-Renaissance architecture, featuring complex and extravagant forms dominated by high rooflines with turrets and many gables. The style was especially popular for houses. Queen Anne-style buildings were usually asymmetrical, and featured heavy ornamentation, often painted with a variety of strong colors. Common features include bay windows, wrap-around porches, roof fences and finials, prominent chimneys, and a great variety of shape and size in window panes.
