drop tower
A thrill ride carrying secured passengers to a high point and then plunging them straight downward.
A drop tower is a thrill ride in which passengers are taken to a high point then dropped in a safe manner straight down toward the bottom. Riders may be seated, standing in a harness, attached to a parachute, or held in any other manner to keep them safe.
The principal descent follows a vertical path toward the bottom of the ride. Different seating, harness, or other restraint arrangements can accompany that movement.
A pendulum ride swings passengers along an arc or loop. The drop tower instead uses the straight downward plunge.
