national police station

A police station used by a national government force rather than a regional or municipal force.

A national police station is a base of operations used by a police force belonging to a national government, and not administered by any sub-national or municipal government; this includes police departments serving whole countries and territories. There may be several such stations within the same administrative unit.

The responsible police force distinguishes it from a regional police station or a municipal police station. The size of the building and the size of the area immediately served do not determine the governmental level of the force.

A highway police station describes a policing duty, while national describes the force responsible for it. Specialized duties do not by themselves exclude a national station. An administrative office without a station function is a different kind of police premises.
