controlled implosion

A structure is removed from its site or partly destroyed by a deliberate and sanctioned implosion or explosion.

A controlled implosion occurs when a structure is deliberately demolished with the use of explosives. Because a careful demolition normally requires that parts of the structure do not fly out unpredictably, the explosives are normally placed so that the structure collapses within the bounds of its own lot: therefore, while explosives are used, the structure implodes rather than explodes.

This demolition method is the main alternative to systematic demolition, in which a structure is taken apart little by little over a longer time.

Destruction of a structure through bombing in acts of crime, war, or accident does not count as controlled implosions.
