hall of fame

A place dedicated to enshrining persons or entities which have excelled in a particular field.

A hall of fame is a museum, shrine, or display area dedicated to exemplars in some particular field, usually persons who have excelled in that field. Halls of fame typically admit a limited number of new persons at regular intervals, normally persons who have already died or retired from that field (often with a waiting period to ensure that the judgment of worthiness is enduring).

The display recognizes achievement in a defined field. Honorees are usually people, but the meaning can also include entities recognized for excellence.

Admission procedures can select a limited number of honorees at intervals. Retirement, death, and waiting periods are common considerations, without being universal conditions for every hall of fame.
