A floor or ground surface with an upper layer of small, loose wood pieces, usually shredded or produced by woodcutting.
A wood chip surface is an upper layer of small loose pieces of wood, usually shredded in a mill or collected as a byproduct of woodcutting. It offers a soft, inexpensive, and biodegradable surface that is easy to walk on and can be replaced easily on a seasonal basis.
This material is often used in recreation areas, gardens, farm buildings, and various other places which are either unenclosed or are closely integrated with an outdoor environment.
The wood pieces form the exposed walking or ground surface. Storage of wood chips awaiting another use is a different activity from using them as a surface.
