wired mast

Related terms: guyed mast

A narrow pole or framework mast stabilized by taut wires anchored away from its own foundation.

A wired mast is an antenna or other pole or narrow framework which is stabilized not only by its own foundation but by taut wires holding it at the sides and anchoring it some distance from the foundation.

The wires provide lateral restraint from anchor points around the mast. Stability therefore depends on more than the base foundation alone.

Either a pole or an open framework can form the central support. The presence of structural guy wires distinguishes this form from a self-supporting mast.
