An industrial site where material goods are fabricated through the assistance of mechanical means.
A factory is a place where goods are manufactured using heavy industrial processes. As opposed to a processing plant, the end result of fabrication in a factory is a recognizably new product.
The industrial operation produces a recognizably new article. Merely changing the condition of a raw material without that result is the distinct work of a processing plant.
A workshop relies on manual labor and craftsmanship. A factory has the heavy industrial production character described above, without requiring that it make every component used in the finished product.
