The quantity of discrete units for habitation which are rented or leased to their occupants.
The number of rental apartments in a built object or any defined place is the total quantity of discrete habitation units there which are rented or leased to their occupants, or which are vacant but available for rental or lease, and which are not owned individually.
Condominium units whose owners put them up for rental are not counted in this data field.
A vacant apartment remains in the count when it is available for rent or lease. Occupancy alone does not establish whether a unit belongs in this total; individual ownership excludes it even when a tenant lives there.
