vertical addition approved

A new addition on top of an existing structure is approved by local authorities.

A vertical addition to a built object is approved when formal permission is granted by local authorities (especially a municipal government) for construction of a significant addition resting on top of the existing object. If the addition will extend out to the side, it should be classified as a horizontal addition.

Permission must concern a significant addition resting on top of the existing object. A side extension on new foundations has the separate horizontal-addition approval event.

Formal approval is distinct from the first proposal and the start of construction. The permission does not by itself show that physical work has begun.
