column grid length (short)

The distance between two column centers along the short side of a rectangle in a regular grid of structural supports.

Column grid length measures the distance between centers of adjacent columns in a structure. The measurement is comprised of two dimensions, short and long; the short version is measured along the shorter side of a rectangle defined by any 4 columns in a regular grid which form the corners of a column-free space.

If a building's framework is not divided regularly, there is no definition of this field. If the columns are spaced evenly but differ in rectangular dimensions from one part of the building to another, then this field can only be used if it is clear which dimensions are dominant throughout the building's spaces. Otherwise the field must be assigned to individual modules of a building.

The short column grid length must always be equal to or less than the long column grid length.
