A music club is a recreational lounge or nightclub where people go to hear music, usually live performances, but not in a formal theater setting. It is distinguished from a disco or dance club, where the music is played predominantly in support of a dance floor. Common examples are blues clubs and jazz clubs, but any kind of music is possible.
The music can be of any genre. Jazz clubs and blues clubs are more specialized examples.
In a dance club, recorded music primarily supports customers dancing. Listening to music remains the main attraction of the music club even when some patrons dance.
