wood planks

A roof covering of wooden boards fitted together, normally in parallel, with possible overlap at their joints.

Wood plank roofing refers to a building's upper surface which is made out of wooden boards, normally fitted tightly against each other in parallel fashion. There may be some overlapping at the ends and edges, and it is common to seal the layer with some sort of tongue-and-groove edges so that nothing can easily penetrate the spaces between boards.

The boards form the outer covering, and their adjacent edges or ends may overlap or interlock. The arrangement is a surface of fitted planks rather than successive courses of small plates.

Wood shingles use small overlapping units. Wooden boards serving only as a deck beneath another roof covering do not establish wood planks as the outer material.
