cooling ceilings

Ceilings with chilled-water pipes or coils that absorb room heat, usually supplementing air conditioning.

Cooling ceilings are ceilings installed with coils or loops of pipes carrying chilled water, which absorbs excess heat in a room and creates cool air convection. The pipes in a cooling ceiling are usually copper or aluminum, and they are normally attached to aluminum panels.

This feature is normally a supplement to other air conditioning systems, and reduces the effects of drafts created by normal air conditioning.

The chilled water circulates in the ceiling pipes or coils and absorbs heat from the room. This differs from central air conditioning that delivers cooled air through ducts; the two arrangements can work together without water-filled pipes becoming air ducts.
