public amenity

A feature of a structure which benefits the public at large, and does not only serve its own tenants.

A public amenity is a feature belonging to a structure which enhances the area or community it is located in. As opposed to a tenant amenity, which benefits primarily the users of a structure, a public amenity is widely available to the larger civic community. Such an amenity however may in some cases be provided at a cost.

The benefit extends beyond the building's own occupants to the surrounding community. Admission can involve a charge without making the benefit exclusive to tenants.

A tenant amenity primarily benefits the building's users. Public availability distinguishes the wider amenity from a facility reserved for that group.
